Eyitayo Jegede, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party within the October 10, 2020 governorship election in Ondo State, has described the attack on his convoy on Wednesday as an "assassination attempt".
Shortly after some armed thugs assaulted his convoy in Oba Akoko city, Jegede spoke with journalists at his campaign office in Akure.
He said he and his supporters were at Oba Akoko's Oloba Palace for a visit before their campaign, when they were assaulted by the armed thugs.

we heard gun shots outside the palace of the Oloba of Oba Akoko which is on the brink of the most road.
"There were gunshots fired within the least folks within A hoard of thugs, who were in the APC campaign vehicles with Governor Rotimi Akeredolu leading the entourage, were near the palace.
Fifteen vehicles in our convoy were destroyed in the process, while several people were also wounded during the attack.
He explained that he decided to halt his campaign billed to carry at Ayegunle in Oba Akoko thanks to the attack and so as to avoid bloodshed.
Jegede said the PDP was in the town of Oba Akoko after the party got police commissioner's permission to continue with the campaign.
The PDP candidate added that the assault on his convoy had been confirmed to Police Commissioner and Department of State Services director of the state.

He added, "This was a transparent case of attempt on human life. We never believe that we might come this low in Ondo State and that i personally haven't seen this sort of desperation in my life.
"If something happens in this state to me or any of our people, I turn to the general public to understand who is responsible for it."
"Yet we could protect ourselves, again. It's not just necessary but imperative for us to defend ourselves in this process."
He, therefore, called on the Inspector-General of Police to right away investigate the attack on his convoy and convey the perpetrators to book.
