REVEALED: How Buhari Spent Five Years Repeating Same Lies About Oil Price And Production

Nigeria 's President, Muhammadu Buhari, managed to conjure up false estimates of the country's boring during his term, and thus the average price of a barrel of oil during his predecessor 's tenure, amid multiple facts-checks of his false statements.

Many of the differences in the President's misconceptions have emerged in his published speeches and off-hand remarks..

During his closing speech to his cabinet at the ministerial retreat at the Presidential Villa last Tuesday, Buhari added another dubious claim. He said the country’s boring nosedived to at least one million barrels per day thanks to attacks from militants.

Buhari’s first recorded claim came in July 2015.

Then he spoke about the effect of the oil price crash, which averaged about 100 US Dollars between 1999 and 2015, saying that the fall to about 30 dollars a barrel a few weeks ago was surprising. ‘I would are during a coma if not for the very fact that i used to be in oil (sector as a past minister) for 3 years,’” Garba Shehu, the president’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity wrote about what Buhari told the Niger Delta Dialogue and get in touch with group led by King Alfred Diete-Spiff during their visit to Presidential Villa in 2015.

Again, in his Democracy Day speech the subsequent year, Buhari updated his claim about the typical oil price during the tenures of his predecessors.

“The past few years have seen massive flows of oil revenues. From 2010, average oil prices were $100 per barrel.”

While addressing the country on October 1, 2016, he made an equivalent false claim about the typical oil price, adding that militant attacks had reduced Nigeria’s boring in his tenure to but 1,000,000 barrels per day.

“Oil price dropped from a mean of hundred USD per barrel over the last decade to a mean of forty USD per barrel this year and last,” he said. Worse still, the damage done to pipelines by Niger Delta thugs often reduced Nigeria 's output to less than a million barrels a day compared to the typical two-million-point barrels a day.

In November 2016 , the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, NIPSS, Kuru, Plateau State, graduated from Senior Executive Course 38. Presidential Villa to deliver a study on poverty reduction, Buhari reiterated his favourite lie.

“For 16 years and eight consecutive governments of the opposite party, you recognize that there was unprecedented revenue realised. The oil projection, which may be verified, was 2.1 million barrels per day. 1999-2015, the typical cost of every Nigerian barrel of oil was $100 per barrel. once we came (elected), it fell to but $30 per barrel and is now oscillating between 40 and 50.”

In his 2017 Independence Day speech, Buhari said, “Recall the recent journey from 1999 to 2015, when our nation happily returned to democratic rule.

Despite oil prices being a mean of $100 per barrel and about 2.1 million barrels each day , that great piece of luck was squandered, and therefore the country’s social and physical infrastructure neglected.”

Interacting with members of the Buhari Support Organisation in 2018, he said, “I challenge anybody to see from Europe, America and Asia; between 1999-2014, Nigeria was producing 2.1 million barrels of petroleum per day at a mean cost of 100 USD per barrel and it went up to 143 USD. It collapsed to 37-38 USD once we were (elected), and later oscillated between 40 and 50 USD.

Although threatening the media and unleashing the Department of State Protection on Nigerians over reports of hate speech and disinformation, both Buhari and his speechwriters continued to propagate false news.

Forgetting that whatever he says is usually considered as news, the president continued together with his dubious claims while addressing his cabinet at the first-year performance ministerial retreat held last Tuesday within the Presidential Villa.

“I want the Nigerian elite, please encourage them to guage us fairly. From 1999 to 2014, the typical production was 2.1m barrels each day . the typical cost was 100 American dollars per barrel. once we came it collapsed to 37 and 38 dollars per barrel, you recognize it. The militants were unleashed on the administration, and therefore the production went right down to half 1,000,000 barrels each day .”

Despite proving that Buhari’s claims about average oil price are false, the president has refused to backtrack from spreading misinformation .

Using the worth basket compiled by the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), Dubawa, a fact-checking news outlet, found that the typical cost of a barrel of petroleum from 1999 to 2014 was about $61.

Both Dubawa and therefore the International Centre for Investigative Reporting (ICIR) have separately found that only between 2011 and 2013 did petroleum price ever averaged above $100.

Also, the president’s claim that Niger Delta militants forced boring right down to half 1,000,000 barrels per day when he came into office is fake .

In October 2015, the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) began publishing monthly financial operations results.within the first month of every year, it states the typical daily production per month for the For the 12 previous months of the preceding year.

Data gathered from its January 2016 monthly operation scorecard shows that the typical daily petroleum production for 2015 was estimated at 2.13 million bpd. Only in June 2015 did boring slip below 2 million bpd.
