A staff member of one of the nation's electricity distribution firms, DISCOs, was arrested in Lagos by police for allegedly drugging and defiling a 14-year-old girl in the Lagos district of Ejigbo.
The suspect (name withheld), had gone to put in prepaid meters for a few residents of Akinwunmi Street, Ile-Epo area of Ejigbo when he met the victim (names withheld) who tried to refill her parent's prepaid meter.
The 17-year-old suspect offered to help her but ended up taking her to the DISCO’s Okota branch where the recharge was done.
On their way back, however, he allegedly took the girl to a hotel at Jakande Gate, where she was allegedly drugged and raped.
He disclosed during interrogation that he had drugged her with 200 milligrams of tramadol.
I offered to fly and recharge their meter, according to him, but her grandmother asked her to accompany me. On our way back, I bought her a bottle of sentimental drink. But before giving it to her, I visited the hotel where I dropped 200 milligrams of tramadol inside. I took her to the hotel where I paid N2,500 and had sex together with her .
“She slept for too long due to the drug and by the time she awakened , it had been late. When she got home, they asked what kept her long and within the process beat her to extract the reality from her. That was how she opened .
“I haven't committed such a criminal offense in my life. this is often the primary time. I used tramadol to sleep due to the noise of the facility generating sets in my compound nightly . My intention was never to finish up during this sort of trouble.
“I dropped out of faculty two years ago because my mother, a widow, didn’t have money to buy my WASSCE.I began to install pre-paid meters and a commission of N1,000 was paid. I even have been saving the cash to enroll within the WASSCE. My mother is functioning as a maid to stay the family going.”
Spokesman for Lagos State Police Command, SP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the arrest.
