On Wednesday, September 23, 2020, the Union Congress of Nigeria threatened to begin an indefinite industrial action and national agitation over the recent rise in electricity tariffs and the price of petrol.
This was disclosed by the TUC in a letter signed on Monday by its President, Mr Quadri Olaleye, and by the Secretary-General, Mr Musa Lawal, to President Muhammad Buhari.
The union described the hike within the pump price of petrol and electricity tariff by the Nigerian Government as unfavourable and unfortunate.

It said a number of the problems that had become worrisome to the labor , their families and therefore the masses included the explosion within the pump price of petrol with none definitive and concrete efforts to form the nation’s refineries functional.
The letter reads, "We have witnessed the slow and steady annihilation of Nigeria and Nigerians for the 20th time in light of state actions."
Immediate measures should be taken by the government to: reverse the hike in prices because it affects electricity, petrol and every one other social services within the country to established order ante (prior to increase) within seven days.

“Provide adequate and quality healthcare and education for all to save lots of the poor and therefore the vulnerable in the least levels.
“These demands are made in straightness , and to save lots of the dying masses and therefore the vulnerable in our society. within the event of not showing empathy for this class of individuals by adhering to above demands, we shall, along side our civil societies and allies sympathetic to the Suffering millions of our people, indefinite industrial action and national protest begin on Wednesday 23 September 2020.
