General Abdulsalami Abubakar (retd.), former Head of State of Nigeria, called on the Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, to serve the people of the state for the second time, as well as compensation for voting for him in office.
While commending the peaceful conduct of the exercise, the previous leader said other states must emulate Edo's example for future elections in their areas.

"Once, again, accept our congratulations and should God guide you.”
Obaseki defeated his closest challenger, Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the All Progressives Congress with a good margin to win Saturday's governorship election within the state.
